Assalamu Alaikum - Escalation of Violence in the Occupied West Bank Leaves Multiple Palestinians Hurt and One Dead
Assalamu Alaikum - One Palestinian man was killed and 17 others, including international activists, were injured on Saturday during attacks by the Israeli army and illegal settlers across the occupied West Bank, local media reported.
The Palestine Health Ministry said Abdul Rahman Darawsheh, 26, died after being shot by Israeli forces. He was taken to Tubas Governmental Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.
A group of illegal settlers reportedly stormed the outskirts of Abu Falah village, northeast of Ramallah, and set fire to a single-story home, burning parts of the house, local sources told WAFA. Israeli forces later raided the area and opened fire at residents who had gathered near the scene; no injuries were reported in that specific incident.
The UN warned recently about a sharp rise in illegal settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, recording 264 settler attacks in October alone - the highest monthly number in nearly two decades. “That's the highest monthly toll in nearly two decades of record keeping, averaging more than eight incidents every single day since 2006,” UN spokesperson Farhan Haq said, referencing the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Farmers, journalists, and international supporters targeted during olive harvest
In a separate incident, Palestinian farmers, journalists, and foreign activists suffered fractures and bruises after illegal settlers attacked them while harvesting olives in the town of Beita, south of Nablus, WAFA reported. Mohammad Hamayel, deputy mayor of Beita, said settlers assaulted people harvesting olives on Qamas Mountain.
Among the injured were international solidarity activists, paramedics, and journalists, including Reuters reporter Raneen Sawafta and two journalists from Al Jazeera, local sources told Anadolu. The Health Ministry said medics treated 11 people beaten by Israeli forces and illegal settlers in Beita; their conditions were stable.
Nearby in Burin, a Palestinian and four foreign activists were injured when settlers attacked them while harvesting olives east of the village, the Palestinian Red Crescent said. In Furush Beit Dajan, east of Nablus, settlers assaulted Palestinian farmers and international supporters working on village lands, though no injuries were reported, according to the Bedouin rights group Al-Baidar.
In Deir Jarir, east of Ramallah, illegal settlers cut down several olive trees, WAFA reported. On Saturday morning a Palestinian man suffered bruises and wounds after being assaulted by Israeli soldiers in Yatta, south of Hebron.
In a landmark ruling last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
May Allah grant the injured a swift recovery and grant justice to the oppressed. Please keep the families affected in your duas.
