Anti-Corruption Activists Slam KPK’s Lenient Charges Against Blueray Boss
The KPK’s decision to go for just three years in prison for PT Blueray Cargo boss John Field in the import bribery case has drawn flak. Anti-corruption activist Uchok S. Khadafi says the charges are unfair and an insult to the sense of justice. He drew a comparison with a petty theft case that got harsher charges, like the theft of charity money that landed a 4.5-year sentence.
Uchok pointed out that the total bribe John Field handed over reached Rp91 billion, with Rp61 billion of that seized from the bribe recipients. He also mentioned alleged law enforcement involvement in this case, plus indications that the total money handed over hit Rp197 billion.
Uchok suspects the lenient charges for John Field are linked to an effort to cover up other parties’ involvement.
