Yaqut Accused of Costing the State Rp622 B in Hajj Corruption Case
Former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has been charged with causing state financial losses amounting to Rp622,090,207,166.41 in a case of alleged corruption involving additional 2023-2024 hajj quotas. The KPK prosecutor read out the indictment at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
That figure for state losses came from an investigative audit by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) regarding the organization of the 2023-2024 hajj pilgrimage. Yaqut is accused of committing unlawful acts together with his former special aide, Ishfah Abidal Aziz, and others, by filling extra special hajj quotas without following the applicable waiting period mechanism.
This was allegedly done to accommodate requests from the association of special hajj organizers (PIHK) and to receive acceleration fees from pilgrims. Prosecutors suspect Yaqut was enriched by USD271,500, while 313 PIHK operators received a total of Rp478.17 billion and the Perahu Cooperative got USD26,500.
