What does Islam say about someone who ends their life due to unbearable illness? Are they condemned forever?
Assalamu alaikum, I have a heavy question on my mind. I'm not here to judge, just to learn. Imagine a Muslim who gets a really severe, painful sickness. They become so overwhelmed mentally and emotionally that they can't take it anymore, and in that moment, they commit suicide. I know suicide is haram and a major sin. But does that mean they're definitely going to Hell? What about the person's suffering and their state of mind? Does Allah take that into account? I know we can't say a specific person is in Hell, and Allah knows what's in the heart. But how do scholars balance the prohibition of suicide with Allah's mercy and justice for someone who was in so much pain? Please share answers from the Qur'an, authentic hadith, and trusted scholars. Jazakum Allahu khairan.
