Viral Footage Shows Nickel Corruption Inmate Outside Kendari Detention Center, Prison Guard Under Investigation
A video of a convict in a nickel mining corruption case, former Kolaka Port Authority Head Supriadi, being active outside the Class II A Kendari Detention Center has gone viral on social media. In footage from Tuesday (4/14/2026), Supriadi is seen leaving a mosque unescorted and then stopping at a coffee shop in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.
Supriadi is an inmate who was sentenced to five years in prison for a corruption case that caused hundreds of billions of rupiah in state losses, related to abuse of authority in allowing a nickel transport ship from an illegal mine in North Kolaka to pass through. The acting Head of Kendari Detention Center, La Ode Mustakim, explained that Supriadi had left the detention center to attend a judicial review hearing at the Kendari District Court with an escort by one prison guard.
After the hearing ended, the guard on duty is suspected of being negligent for not immediately taking the inmate back to the detention center, but instead acquiescing to the request to stop at a coffee shop. Due to this incident, that prison guard is now undergoing intensive investigation and could face strict sanctions if proven to have violated regulations. The detention center authorities are also questioning Supriadi regarding this event.
