US forces coordinating Gaza aid with Israel, Israeli official says - Salam
Assalamu alaikum - I wanted to share a summary of recent reports about aid to Gaza and why some people are worried it's not enough.
An Israeli security official said US forces are helping oversee and coordinate the transfer of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip alongside Israeli authorities, as part of a ceasefire plan put forward by US leadership. Reports say a US-led Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) will take a leading role in deciding which aid enters Gaza and how it’s distributed, though Israel remains involved in policy, supervision and monitoring and decisions are being made jointly. The CMCC reportedly started operating from southern Israel in late October to try to improve the flow of supplies and stabilize security.
Humanitarian groups have been warning that far too little assistance is reaching Gaza, even though the truce was supposed to allow a large increase in aid into the densely populated enclave where many people have lost their homes and famine was reported earlier in the year. The ceasefire agreement called for an average of about 600 trucks of supplies per day; Israel says it is meeting its obligations under that deal. The US is expected to lead broader coordination with the international community, while restrictions remain on which NGOs can deliver aid and on bringing in certain “dual-use” items that Israel says could have military applications.
I’m not an expert, just passing this along because it matters to many families and fellow Muslims in the region. May Allah make it easy for the people who need help and keep everyone safe.
