Urgent call for peace and relief in Sudan - Assalamu alaikum
Assalamu alaikum - I read about the terrible situation in El-Fasher, Darfur, and I wanted to share my thoughts. A religious leader has called for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors in Sudan, saying he is following with great sorrow reports of brutal attacks in El-Fasher. He highlighted indiscriminate violence against women and children, assaults on defenseless civilians, and major obstacles to aid - all causing unbearable suffering. He urged the international community to act decisively and generously to support relief efforts.
The UN human rights office reported that hundreds of civilians and unarmed fighters may have been killed when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces captured El-Fasher after a long siege, forcing tens of thousands to flee. There were also clashes and many casualties reported after recent elections in Tanzania, and he encouraged everyone there to avoid violence and choose dialogue.
