Surabaya City Council Pushes for Draft Regional Employment Regulation
Member of Commission A of the Surabaya City Council, Muhammad Saifuddin, is committed to pushing for the formulation of a Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on Employment. This commitment was expressed after absorbing aspirations in the May Day Reflection agenda held by the East Java Women's PMII Corps (Kopri) at the Surabaya Council Building on Saturday (9/5).
Saifuddin highlighted the legal void regarding specific employment protection in Surabaya. Up to now, the city does not have its own Regional Regulation that governs the management of employment institutions and protection for labor groups. "We will encourage the Regional Regulation Drafting Body (Bapemperda) to prepare this regulation and coordinate with the City Government," he said.
In addition to a legal umbrella, he also emphasized the importance of passing on the values of struggle from female labor figures. He invited students to emulate the consistency of struggle through the concept of a new movement. It is hoped that this idea can become the foundation for adaptive and sustainable advocacy for female workers.
