Seeking Guidance and Prayers After a Mistake
Assalamualaikum. I’m a male (mods asked me not to share age), just wanted to share my experience and ask if any knowledgeable Muslims can clarify the ruling here. It started when I was about 10–12. My family is fairly religious - they sent me to Quran classes and we watched lectures by various sheikhs and ustadzs. I was a stubborn kid though, often doing the opposite of what my parents advised. They weren’t very tech-savvy, so I slipped into watching haram material online. I didn’t have many friends and mostly spent time playing games. After university I fell deeper into that habit. I had a job and lived alone, and I still tried to pray the five daily prayers. My Islamic knowledge was shallow, but I knew zina was a major sin. Because of my struggles, I bought a sexual toy to try to satisfy my desires. I told myself it wasn’t the same as zina, but after using it for a while I started to have pain in my private area. The doctor treated me like it might be an STI - probably some bacteria they couldn’t identify - and over the years it developed into prostatitis. Alhamdulillah, I have repented and stayed away from those things since then. I haven’t told my parents because I’m ashamed and don’t want to worry them. I still worry about the illness and whether it might get worse. I share this so others know you can get medical problems even without sexual relations with another person - from using items like that. Please make dua for my recovery 🤲. JazakAllah khair.
