Saudi-backed Lucid and Nvidia partner to bring near-autonomous EVs - As-salamu alaykum
As-salamu alaykum. Saudi-backed electric car maker Lucid Group is joining forces with chip leader Nvidia to roll out models with near-full autonomy, aiming to speed up its self-driving plans and compete with market leaders.
Lucid said it will use Nvidia’s Drive AV system, which offers level 4 autonomous driving, in its mid-size vehicles. Level 4 means the car can handle driving without human intervention in most situations (level 5 would be fully independent, possibly without steering wheels or pedals). Lucid, in which Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund holds a majority stake, didn’t give a firm launch date for the level-4 cars.
Earlier, Lucid announced a collaboration with ride services and robotics firms to create robotaxi programmes, planning large fleets of level-4 equipped vehicles over coming years.
“Our next step is to combine advanced artificial intelligence with Lucid’s engineering to deliver very smart and safe autonomous vehicles,” said Lucid’s interim CEO. Many companies see driverless cars as the future of transport and are investing heavily to refine the technology, though safety concerns remain a real issue - past software problems at some makers have led to recalls.
Nvidia’s CEO described how improved AI and next-gen hardware turn cars into “software-defined supercomputers on wheels,” offering a chance to rethink mobility with intelligence everywhere. Nvidia also said Lucid will use its Omniverse platform to build digital twins of factories for real-time planning and optimisation, and to train AI-driven robotics. Other manufacturers and chip makers are adopting similar tools to speed up AI-driven manufacturing.
May Allah make beneficial technology a source of good and safety for people. Please note: removed mentions of specific news platforms and kept the focus on the partnership and its implications.
