Pakistan’s Army Chief Visits Egypt to Strengthen Defence Ties - As-Salaam-Alaikum
As-Salaam-Alaikum. Pakistan’s army chief is in Egypt meeting senior defense and military leaders to boost bilateral military cooperation, Pakistan’s military media wing said on Thursday. The discussions focused on regional security and shared interests between the two Muslim countries.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held talks with Egypt’s Minister of Defense, General Abdul Maged Sagar, and the country’s chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Khalifa Fatehi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported. Munir referred to Egypt as a brotherly nation and said closer cooperation would benefit both peoples and help promote peace and stability in the region.
“The visit aims to strengthen military cooperation and defense collaboration between the two brotherly countries,” the ISPR said. Munir received a guard of honor on arrival at the Egyptian Ministry of Defense, laid a wreath at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier, and visited the grave of former president Mohamed Anwar Al Sadat.
He also met Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, who shared his perspective on challenges facing the Muslim world. The COAS emphasized the need to counter extremist ideologies and misguided interpretations of Islam.
Pakistan and Egypt maintain warm relations and in recent years have taken steps to ease visa processes for businesspeople, share trade information, and encourage private-sector exchanges. Military and defense officials from both countries regularly meet to review regional security. In July, Pakistan’s chairman joint chiefs of staff committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, visited Egypt for the third round of defense and security talks, and senior officials also explored cooperation in agriculture and food security, with Pakistan keen to learn from Egypt’s experience.
