Pakistan and Qatar Vow to Turn Trade and Investment Plans into Real Projects - As-Salamu Alaikum
As-Salamu Alaikum - Pakistan and Qatar have renewed their promise to deepen economic ties and turn their shared trade and investment aims into real, on-the-ground projects. The commitment followed a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatari Commerce and Industry Minister Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al-Thani, who is visiting to co-chair the 6th Pakistan‑Qatar Joint Ministerial Commission.
PM Sharif said he was pleased with the positive direction of relations between the two countries, built on common faith, values and mutual respect, and he thanked Doha for being an important partner and mediator. He stressed the need to boost bilateral trade and investment, pointing to opportunities in energy, agriculture and food security, information technology, tourism and infrastructure.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s investor-friendly policies and invited Qatari investors to look into new areas of cooperation. Both sides agreed to keep working closely to make their shared understandings concrete, including making it easier for business-to-business contacts and launching investment projects.
This follows a protocol signed earlier that commits to realizing Qatar’s $3 billion investment in key sectors of Pakistan’s economy. The pledge targets areas such as transport, civil aviation, education, health, culture, media, communications, IT and labor. Pakistan and Qatar will cooperate on public transport projects like rail, bus and metro, support the adoption of electric vehicles, and Pakistan’s and Qatar’s aviation authorities plan to meet early next year to step up aviation cooperation. The protocol also includes a memorandum of understanding between the education ministries to boost technical skills development.
Pakistan and Qatar enjoy warm relations rooted in economic cooperation, defense, and shared faith and culture. Qatar hosts many Pakistani workers and has played a role in facilitating regional dialogue recently. The Qatari minister reaffirmed Doha’s interest in deepening economic engagement, calling the JMC session a useful chance to review cooperation and find new projects that benefit both sides. PM Sharif expressed Pakistan’s gratitude for Qatar’s steady support on regional and global matters and said Pakistan wants to strengthen collaboration in regional and multilateral forums.
