Operation "Metron": How Turkey Uncovered Mossad's Spy Network

On the night of October 3rd, local authorities managed to uncover one of the most serious spy operations in recent years - they found and neutralized a group working for the Israeli intelligence Mossad right on Turkish soil.
According to the info, Turkish intelligence together with Istanbul police detained a Turkish citizen named Mehmet Fatih Kılıç, also known as Serkan Çiçek. He was caught cooperating with Mossad, for which he was getting paid.
The investigation showed that Kılıç received $4000 for spying on a Palestinian activist in Istanbul who openly criticized Israeli policy in the Middle East. The arrest was part of a carefully planned operation codenamed "Metron," organized by intelligence, the prosecutor’s office, and the anti-terror police unit.
Kılıç was under surveillance for several weeks and was caught red-handed while carrying out the task. This case is just part of Turkey’s long fight against foreign spy networks, where political and economic interests clash along with national security.
After the arrest, Mehmet Fatih Kılıç’s name became widely known. It turned out he was going through serious financial troubles due to a failed business and debts. To hide from creditors, he changed his name and decided to start over.
In 2020, he opened a private detective agency called Pandora Investigations, which gave him lots of connections and experience but also attracted the attention of foreign intelligence services who saw him as a suitable recruit.
Among his acquaintances were people previously convicted of spying for Israel. For example, Musa Koç, sentenced to 19 years in prison, and lawyer Tuğrul Han Dip, who sold personal data through official databases.
In July this year, Kılıç got an offer from a certain Faisal Rashid, who introduced himself as an employee of a foreign law firm. Later it turned out he was an officer from Mossad’s cyber unit.
Faisal offered Kılıç a job in Turkey with good pay, using his financial situation and detective experience. Despite the risks, Kılıç agreed and started receiving instructions through encrypted communication channels.
The first task was to follow a Palestinian activist in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul, where many Arab residents live, including, as media reports say, members of the Hamas movement.
For the job, Kılıç got $4000 in cryptocurrency to hide the transfer. He gathered info - routes, surroundings, photos, and videos - but didn’t know he himself was under surveillance by Turkish special services.
He tried to pass himself off as someone looking for an apartment, took pictures of cameras and security, but couldn’t get any important info. After that, contact with "Faisal" was cut off, and the task was considered unfinished. Still, Kılıç kept the money, explaining that the income was what mattered to him.
After several weeks of surveillance, Turkish intelligence collected enough evidence and carried out Operation Metron. On October 3rd, raids were conducted in Istanbul, and Kılıç and lawyer Tuğrul Han Dip were arrested.
The court found that Dip was a key figure in the network, illegally accessing government databases and selling data to foreign intelligence services. He worked with Musa Koç and other agents, receiving payments in various ways.
Both detainees were held in custody on charges of gathering secret information for political and military espionage - a serious crime against Turkey’s security.
During interrogations, Kılıç tried to portray himself as a fraudster who just wanted money and didn’t intend to carry out the tasks, but correspondence with "Faisal" proved otherwise. It also turned out he had a criminal past, including document forgery and fraud.
The investigation continues, and another suspect is still at large. In recent years, Turkey has detained several people linked to passing secret info to Israel.
Political analysts believe this is part of a long intelligence struggle between Ankara and Tel Aviv. Israel tries to weaken Turkey through covert operations, but all attempts have been uncovered thanks to the effective work of Turkish special services.
