NTT Earthquake Victims Increase, 68 Dead and 213 Injured

BANDA ACEH -- The 7 magnitude earthquake that shook East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has claimed 68 lives and left 213 injured, according to data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of Monday (8/17/2026). The fatalities are spread across several areas, including East Manggarai Regency and Ngada Regency. Acting Head of the BNPB Data, Information, and Communication Center, Berton SP Panjaitan, stated that the number of victims may still change as monitoring and data updates continue in the field. "We are still monitoring the victim count and will keep reporting when more victims are found," he said. The earthquake that occurred on Saturday (8/15/2026) also damaged buildings and forced thousands of residents to evacuate.
