Nothing you worry about will matter in 100 years - and that’s your freedom, insha’Allah

As-salamu alaykum. Almost none of the things you lose sleep over now will matter in a century. Your name, your awkward moments, failed exams, bad haircuts, cringe messages, those “what if I look foolish” thoughts - all will be gone, by Allah’s decree. That’s not bleak; it’s liberating. If most things will be forgotten, the fear holding you back is aimed at an audience that won’t be there. The people you worry about disappointing are temporary. The social rules you’re afraid to break are temporary. Even this anxious version of yourself is temporary. So what truly counts? How fully you live while you’re here, and how you use the time Allah has given you. The skills you learn, the good you do for others, the risks you take that let you sleep at night with self-respect and a clear heart. You’re not here to impress a world that won’t remember you - you’re here to live this short life in a way that would make you say, “Alhamdulillah, I showed up.” If everything will fade anyway, then, with tawakkul, do the thing that scares you, speak the truth kindly, start that project, be the beginner, pursue the sincere idea. Oblivion is certain; effort and intention are your choice. That is your advantage. Your measure should be you and your accountability to Allah, and no one else.
