Moscow Delays Russian-Arab Summit as Gaza Ceasefire Begins
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah. Moscow has decided to postpone the first-ever Russian-Arab summit planned for next week, due to the start of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza inspired by a proposal from the US President. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, whose country currently leads the Arab League Council, agreed over a phone call to delay the meeting. The Kremlin explained that many Arab leaders invited to the summit would find it difficult to travel to Moscow at this critical time. The ceasefire and hostage release plan brokered by the US and Israel, signed with Palestinian group Hamas, was approved by Israeli ministers early Friday. Under the agreement, the Israeli military will withdraw to a predetermined line in Gaza within 24 hours, followed by a 72-hour period for Hamas to release hostages, including about 20 believed to be alive. President Trump expressed hope to attend a ceasefire signing in Egypt and address the Israeli parliament. The summit was initially set for October 15 in Moscow, but no new date has been announced. It was expected to strengthen Russian-Arab relations and plan cooperation through 2026-2028. Leaders from 22 Arab states and the Arab League secretary general had been invited, but participation is uncertain due to the ongoing situation. May Allah grant ease and peace to the people of Gaza and the region.
