KPK Prosecutors Reveal Two Hajj Quota Decrees Were Backdated by Gus Yaqut
BANDA ACEH - The KPK prosecution team has uncovered allegations that two Religious Affairs Ministerial Decrees (KMA) regarding additional 2024 hajj quotas were backdated. This came to light in the indictment against former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
KMA Number 1156/2023 was dated December 21, 2023, but was actually signed on January 9, 2024. The prosecutors said this backdating was linked to the hajj payment deadline, so that prospective pilgrims wouldn't have enough time to pay. The decree was also not widely circulated.
Furthermore, KMA Number 130/2024, issued on January 24, 2024, was dated January 15, 2024. This decree regulated the distribution of an additional 20,000 hajj quotas-10,000 for special hajj and 10,000 for regular hajj. The prosecutors suspect this was done to accommodate the interests of special hajj organizers who wanted an allocation exceeding 8 percent.
