JK's Lawyer Suspects Blasphemy Report Is Attempt to Silence Diploma Issue
Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla's lawyer, Husain Abdullah, suspects that a blasphemy report filed by the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI) with Metro Jaya Police regarding JK's statement about martyrdom might be an effort to silence him. This suspicion arose because the report was filed after JK suggested President Joko Widodo present his original diploma to end public controversy, as stated on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
Husain explained that JK's remarks during a sermon at UGM Mosque on March 5, 2026, were allegedly clipped and given a misleading narrative. The core of the sermon was about lessons on reconciling conflicting parties, referring to experiences from conflicts in Poso and Ambon. JK described the sociological reality during conflicts, where both sides used religious jargon to justify violent actions, with an understanding that killing the opponent or being killed would lead to paradise.
In his explanation, Husain emphasized that JK stated such understanding must be corrected because mutual killing is not justified in any religion. "So Mr. JK said you will all go to hell if you kill each other, not to heaven. Because no religion teaches such actions," Husain clarified. He added that what JK conveyed was not a personal opinion, but a depiction of real conditions and an approach to calm disputes.
