Israel Continues Artillery Attacks in Lebanon Despite Ceasefire Being in Effect
Israeli forces reportedly continued artillery attacks into southern Lebanon, even though a ceasefire between the two countries has been in effect since early Friday (17/4/2026) local time. This ceasefire was announced by US President Donald Trump, marking a pause in the conflict that has claimed over 2,000 lives.
The Lebanese government news agency NNA reported that the Israeli military fired artillery at the towns of Khiam and Debbine just minutes after the ceasefire took hold. The attacks reportedly resumed about 30 minutes later, accompanied by intensive drone flights over Rashaya and the western slopes of Mount Hermon. Israel intensified its attacks leading up to the ceasefire, with fighter jets striking at least 11 towns.
The Israel Defense Forces stated that their attacks were targeting rocket launchers belonging to the Hezbollah group. In response, Hezbollah reportedly fired rockets into Israel and carried out attacks against Israeli military positions in the border zone. So far, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities from these latest attacks.
