As-salamu alaykum. In Iraq, they've decided to block the American gaming platform Roblox - authorities say it's for the safety of children, according to Reuters. The main reason is that there's direct communication between players on the platform, which, in the authorities' view, could lead to crimes against minors or content that doesn't align with social values and traditions.
Company representatives say that user safety is important to them and they're ready to work with Iraqi authorities to restore access. The platform's press service noted that they disagree with the authorities' assessment and think it's outdated.
Earlier this year, the company temporarily disabled some features, like the chat in Arabic, to reduce risks during player interactions. The Iraqi Ministry of Communications stated that the ban resulted from a large-scale study that revealed behavioral and social risks, as well as security threats.
It's worth mentioning that the platform was banned in Turkey last year for similar reasons - due to concerns over sexual crimes against children.
