Imipas Corruption Case Said to Tarnish Indonesia's Image in the Eyes of the World
Deputy Chair of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Andreas Hugo Pareira, said the corruption case at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) has stained Indonesia's face internationally. This is related to the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) sting operation at the West Jakarta Immigration Office, which uncovered alleged bribery in processing foreign nationals' stay permits. "This case is directly linked to investment governance, international trust, and the credibility of the state bureaucracy," he said on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Andreas stressed the importance of transparency and thoroughness in the legal process, as well as systemic evaluation of immigration governance. He warned that bribery practices can open gaps for individuals who potentially threaten security. "Immigration as a gateway must be staffed by human resources who are capable, competent, have integrity, and are highly dedicated," he asserted.
