ICMI East Java Holds 2026 Regional Conference: Muslim Intellectuals Must Be the Torch of Inclusive Civilization
The Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) East Java held its 2026 Regional Conference (Muswil) at Airlangga University, Surabaya, Saturday (4/7), with the theme 'Strengthening the Role of Muslim Intellectuals as the Torch of Inclusive and Transformative Civilization'. The event opened with a National Seminar featuring figures like Prof. Arief Satria, Emil Dardak, Prof. Nafik Hadi Ryandono, and Dr. Daniel Rohi, who highlighted the importance of knowledge-based leadership, research culture, equitable economy, and interfaith dialogue.
ICMI Central Chairman Prof. Arif Satria stressed that knowledge must be a liberating force from poverty and injustice, and restore the nation's rationality post-colonialism. Dr. Daniel Rohi, Chairman of PIKI East Java, called interfaith dialogue a real way to build civilization through openness and mutual respect.
After the seminar, the agenda continued with the accountability report of the board, formulation of organizational policies, and election of the ICMI East Java Chair for the 2026–2031 period. ICMI East Java is committed to restoring the role of intellectuals as guardians of the nation's common sense amid disruption and division, asserting that civilization is born from intellectual courage that serves humanity.
