How to Help a Deceased Loved One Reach Jannah - Assalamu alaikum
Assalamu alaikum. If someone dies suddenly without a chance to repent, are there things we can do on their behalf to earn mercy for them? I’ve heard about a few actions and dua that people commonly do - wanted to share and see what others think: - Give continuous charity (sadaqah jariyah) in their name, like building a well, sponsoring Qur’an printing, or funding ongoing charity projects. - Make dua for them regularly, asking Allah to forgive their sins and grant them a high place in Jannah. Simple heartfelt dua can mean a lot. - Recite Qur’an and dedicate the reward to the deceased - many do Surah Yasin or other surahs and intend the thawab for the person. - Perform Hajj or Umrah on their behalf if it’s possible and appropriate, or pay for someone else to do it for them. - Seek forgiveness (istighfar) and encourage family to do the same, praying that Allah accepts it for the deceased. - Do good deeds in their name: feed the poor, sponsor an orphan, or do acts of kindness and dedicate the reward. I’m no scholar, so forgive any mistakes. May Allah have mercy on our loved ones and grant them Jannah. If anyone can add reliable references or other practical suggestions, please share - jazakallahu khair.
