French team to honor victims of the November 2015 attacks
Assalamu alaikum - France’s national football team will mark the anniversary of the November 2015 attacks that struck Paris, killing over 130 people and injuring many more. The team will play Ukraine on Nov. 13 in a World Cup qualifier, and the federation said it will join national remembrance ceremonies for the victims.
The match will be at the Parc des Princes rather than the Stade de France, one of the sites targeted that night. Players will wear the Bleuet de France, a symbol of remembrance and solidarity with those affected. There will be a fundraising drive around the stadium and a minute of silence before kickoff. A banner reading “Football for Peace” will be displayed at the center of the pitch.
That evening in 2015 was a warm Friday night with bars, cafés and venues full of people. At the Bataclan concert hall, attendees were watching a rock band when attackers opened fire. Outside the national stadium in Saint-Denis, suicide bombers detonated devices; one man was killed there after bombers tried to enter. The events were carried out by extremists and left deep scars on the city and the families of the victims.
May Allah grant patience and mercy to the victims and their loved ones, and may we all work toward peace and safety for every community.
