East Java KPID Gathers Public Input for Broadcasting Bill Revision
The East Java Regional Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPID) teamed up with Universitas Brawijaya to hold a focus group discussion (FGD) in Surabaya on Wednesday (7/15) to collect input for refining the Broadcasting Bill. The forum brought together broadcasting associations, journalism organizations, academics, and regional government bodies.
KPID East Java chair Royin Fauziana said the broadcasting industry faces complex challenges, including media convergence and the demand for quality content that meets the Broadcasting Code of Conduct and Program Standards (P3SPS). The discussion identified broadcasting issues in East Java and put together recommendations for lawmakers.
East Java DPRD Commission A chair Dedi Irwansa stressed how important it is for the public to pay attention to the Broadcasting Bill so strategic issues don’t get buried under the wave of viral trends. Central KPI commissioner Mimah Susanti pushed for the bill to be passed to sync regulations between conventional media and digital platforms, creating a healthy and fair media ecosystem.
Universitas Brawijaya lecturer Romel Masykuri highlighted this collaboration as a way universities can contribute to public-minded broadcasting governance. Meanwhile, KPID East Java institutional coordinator Rosnindar Prio Eko Rahardjo pointed out the challenges with licensing, frequency spectrum, and multiplexing costs that affect the sustainability of the national broadcasting industry. KPID East Java hopes the FGD results turn into constructive recommendations for adaptive regulations that give industry certainty and put public interest first.
