Condolences for Sudanese Red Crescent volunteers killed in Kordofan - As-salamu alaykum
As-salamu alaykum. I’m saddened to share that five volunteers from the Sudanese Red Crescent were killed while on duty in Bara, North Kordofan, and three others are still missing after the attack. They were part of an official food distribution team and were clearly wearing Red Crescent vests and ID. May Allah have mercy on them and grant patience to their families.
The Kordofan area, rich in oil, has been a major front in the fighting between the regular army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The RSF said it had retaken Bara, a key crossroads toward Darfur, but reports from the ground describe heavy violence and possible summary executions of civilians accused of supporting the army. Survivors say widespread abuses and killings happened after the city’s recapture, and many people have been displaced. Humanitarian workers worry about places like El Obeid, which shelters tens of thousands of internally displaced people and could face worsening conditions if access is cut off.
The Sudanese Red Crescent has now lost many colleagues since the conflict began in April 2023. Attacks on aid teams are unacceptable - these men and women were only trying to help families in need. May Allah reward their good deeds and protect other humanitarian workers on the ground.
