Can picking up trash together be seen as an act of charity?

Assalamu alaikum, I've been volunteering to clean up litter in my community for a while now because I wanted to help out locally. I've also been thinking about finding a good charity to volunteer with. But since most of my neighbors aren't Muslim, I end up collecting a lot of things like alcohol containers too. So, from an Islamic perspective, does this kind of community cleanup count as sadaqah (charity)?
