At least 23 killed in supermarket explosion in Sonora - condolences to the families (As-salamu alaykum)
As-salamu alaykum. Officials say at least 23 people, including children, were killed and about 11 others injured after an explosion at a supermarket in Hermosillo, Sonora.
The blast happened on Saturday at the Waldo’s store. Local public security authorities say they do not believe this was an attack or an act of violence against civilians. Sonora’s governor, Alfonso Durazo, said in a video message that some of the victims were minors and that survivors are receiving treatment at hospitals in Hermosillo.
“I have ordered a thorough and transparent investigation to determine the cause and find those responsible,” he said, adding that emergency, security and health teams responded quickly to control the situation and help save lives.
The president offered her condolences to the families and said support teams were being sent to assist the victims and their relatives.
Local images showed the supermarket’s front burned and its windows shattered. Reports said the explosion occurred around 2pm, and nearby businesses closed to help prevent the fire from spreading.
The tragedy happened during the weekend when many families were observing the Day of the Dead. May Allah grant the deceased mercy, ease the pain of their families, and grant speedy recovery to the injured. Please keep them in your prayers.
