In Donetsk this past weekend muftis and imams from across the country gathered for an all‑Russian conference on strengthening traditional spiritual and moral values and preserving spiritual sovereignty. The event was held by the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Russia together with local religious structures and the Foundation for the Support of Islamic Culture. At the end, participants adopted a declaration on the role of the clergy in strengthening spiritual values and historical memory.
Speakers said that in the current realities it’s very important to preserve our traditions: without taking historical memory and spiritual experience into account society loses its footing. They discussed the influence of ideals imposed from outside and the need to protect education, culture, language and religion.
The delegation visited the Donetsk Cathedral Mosque “Ahat Jami,” which was damaged by shelling and is temporarily not accepting worshippers. Imams offered du'a for the speedy restoration of the House of Allah, for peace and for the preservation of lives in the Donbas. Among the participants were, in particular, representatives of the spiritual administrations of Voronezh, Bryansk, Tambov, Lipetsk and Belgorod regions.
From October 16 to 18, the 23rd Moscow International Quran Reciters Competition will be held in Moscow. Representing our country will be the imam of the Saratov Cathedral Mosque, a teacher at the Sheikh Said madrasa, and hafiz of the Quran Yasir Dodarbekov, 24, a prizewinner at various competitions. The reciters will perform in the “Tilawa” category - skilled recitation of the ayat.
In Dagestan, the international para-table tennis tournament for the Mufti’s prizes wrapped up at the Ali Aliev Sports Complex. The competition brought together athletes with disabilities from various regions and countries. The Mufti of Dagestan, Sheikh Ahmad Afandi, attended the tournament, which gave it a special spiritual atmosphere. Winners received awards, and among the audience they raffled three vouchers for the minor Hajj.
Thousands of believers gathered for collective morning prayer at the Central Juma Mosque of Makhachkala and in many mosques across the republic. After the prayer they offered du'a for the residents of Gaza and for those who serve and work in the combat zone. Palestinians who found shelter in Dagestan also attended the prayer - their participation was a sign of solidarity and brotherhood.
Representatives of the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan thanked those involved in evacuations and helping refugees and stressed the importance of supporting people who found themselves in trouble. The Palestinian guests expressed warm gratitude for the help and care.
Three delegations from the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Tatarstan recently visited the area affected by an emergency situation on a humanitarian mission. The Mufti and other members of the delegation took part in the conference on strengthening spiritual values and at the same time delivered aid: equipment and devices for communications and power supply, medical supplies, warm clothing, food, building materials and religious literature, which were handed directly into the hands of those in need.
The Tavric Muftiate organized a new batch of aid for those who are serving; the campaign is held regularly and is meant to support and thank them for their service.
In one of the units repairs were completed and a special prayer room was opened - now Muslim servicemen have a convenient place for salah and du'a. This is an important moment: brothers and sisters can remember one another and pray for those who stand in defense.
In the Tatar village of Azigulovo (Sverdlovsk region) they solemnly laid the foundation stone at the start of construction for a new mosque. Azigulovo is an old Tatar village with a living tradition of studying the native language; children from nearby villages attend the local school.
At the Copper Mosque named after Imam Ismagil al‑Bukhari (Verkhnyaya Pyshma) there was a warm creative evening with calligraphers Ayrat Khismatullin and Asiya Rodina. Guests learned about the styles and philosophy of Islamic calligraphy, and many tried writing themselves - children and adults under the masters’ guidance wrote their first words in Arabic: “love,” “patience,” “thank you.” Everyone left inspired with handmade cards.
The Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia expressed support for the peace talks on Gaza and called for an end to the suffering of civilians. The organization stressed that the killing of peaceful people, among them many women and children, must stop, and that those wrongfully detained should be released. Prayers and sympathy are with those who have lost loved ones; there is hope for a swift end to hostilities and for broad access to humanitarian aid.
In Azerbaijan the Central Bank announced the phased introduction of Islamic banking products through the “Islamic window” model in traditional banks - this will allow testing demand and gradually expanding the range of Sharia services.
In Kazakhstan new rules are coming into force to strengthen liability for sexual crimes against minors - procedures and measures will be applied by court decision and after the relevant expert conclusions. In neighboring Kyrgyzstan a draft constitutional change is being discussed that would reinstate the death penalty as an exceptional measure for particularly grave crimes against children and women; the issue is planned to be put to a referendum.
At the summit in Sharm el‑Sheikh leaders of several countries signed a final agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The event raised hope for reduced violence and movement toward a peaceful settlement.
