Assalamu alaykum - Crafts Market brings Jazan’s traditions back to life
Assalamu alaykum - Jazan is breathing new life into the feel of its old markets with a lively, modern event called the Crafts Market. Organized by the Alrowad Youth Association in Jazan together with the Cultural House and overseen by the Heritage Commission, the initiative comes as 2025 is named the Year of Handicrafts in the Kingdom.
The Crafts Market gives local artisans a chance to present traditional skills and handmade goods, aiming to support creators and boost the local creative economy. Weekly traditional craft workshops are being run at the Cultural House by experienced local artisans, offering hands-on sessions that mix learning, enjoyment, and the preservation of our heritage.
Held on Fridays and Saturdays through the end of November, the workshops include pottery, sculpture, painting, palm-frond weaving, candle and perfume making, leatherwork, Arabic calligraphy, seashell crafts, embroidery, jewelry and accessories, as well as branding and product packaging.
Organizers describe the program as an important cultural project that restores the place of handicrafts in our national identity and contributes to social development, in line with Vision 2030’s goals to empower youth and revive traditional industries.
