As-salamu alaykum - Pakistan Navy says ready to protect maritime borders as new hovercraft join service
As-salamu alaykum. Pakistan’s naval chief said on Saturday that the country is well-prepared to defend its maritime borders as three modern 2400 TD hovercraft were inducted to boost the navy’s operational abilities.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf made these comments while visiting forward posts in the creek area to check on operational readiness and the preparedness of personnel. Speaking to officers and crew, he said the arrival of the new craft reflects the Pakistan Navy’s push to modernize and strengthen the nation’s defense.
“We know how to defend our sovereignty and every inch of our maritime frontiers from Sir Creek to Jiwani,” he said, according to the navy’s public relations statement. He also stressed that the navy’s defensive capabilities are matched by their strong morale, from the coast to the open sea.
The statement explained the hovercraft can operate over many surfaces - shallow waters, sand dunes, marshy and boggy coastal zones - and can access areas where conventional boats cannot. That ability to move across land and water at once should give Pakistan Marines an advantage in carrying out their missions.
Admiral Ashraf also highlighted that protecting sea lines of communication and maritime security is not only a military duty but a key part of the nation’s sovereignty and economic stability. He called the Pakistan Navy a guardian of peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region and an important partner in regional maritime security.
