As-salamu alaykum - 15 civilians reported killed in fresh clashes on Afghanistan–Pakistan border
As-salamu alaykum. May Allah have mercy on those who lost their lives and grant healing to the wounded.
Local officials in Spin Boldak say overnight fighting on the Afghanistan–Pakistan border left about 15 civilians dead and many more hurt. Ali Mohammad Haqmal, a spokesman for the area’s information department, gave the figure of 15 killed. A hospital official, Abdul Jan Barak, said more than 80 women and children were among the wounded.
A spokesman for the Kabul authorities, Zabihullah Mujahid, accused Pakistani forces of carrying out attacks with light and heavy weapons, saying 12 civilians were killed and about 100 injured. His statement didn’t mention any casualties among security forces but said calm returned after Pakistani soldiers were reportedly killed and some posts and weapons were seized.
People in the area have closed their shops and many families have fled, according to reporters. Pakistan did not immediately respond, though some security sources said Afghan positions were targeted from Kurram district, which is north of Spin Boldak.
The flare-up comes amid rising tensions between the two neighbours, with Islamabad accusing Afghanistan of sheltering militants linked to the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) - a claim Kabul denies. The recent clashes followed operations launched from Kabul on Saturday across at least five border provinces. Afghan authorities said those moves were in response to air strikes by the Pakistani army on Kabul after unclaimed blasts in the capital. Islamabad warned of a strong response, and both sides reported dozens of casualties.
May Allah protect the innocent and bring peace to the region.
