Al Ain opens 900-metre tunnel to reduce travel times - Assalamu Alaikum
Assalamu Alaikum - A new 900-metre tunnel in Al Ain has been opened to help shorten journeys.
The Zakher Intersection project, which cost Dh185 million and took 22 months to finish, is part of broader efforts to improve mobility in the area. Authorities replaced the old four-way roundabout and built the tunnel with three lanes each way.
Planners expect this to improve traffic on Hazza bin Sultan Street, an important route connecting the town’s north and south, and to make commutes shorter for drivers heading north from neighbourhoods like Zakher, Shiab Alashkhar, Shiab AlWatah and Ain Alfaydah.
“The new intersection shows our dedication to developing world-class infrastructure across Al Ain Region,” said Abdulla Hamdan Al Amery, executive director at Al Ain City Municipality.
Al Ain has been working on several major projects recently. The restoration of Al Ain Museum - established over 50 years ago by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan - has just been completed and the museum will reopen soon, offering visitors a refreshed way to connect with the city’s history and heritage.
Other local news in brief:
- Updates on horse racing results and prize money around the region.
- Coverage of various cultural events, exhibitions and film releases happening locally.
- Reports on regional development, education and healthcare projects, including work to support young people and patients.
Some community notes: there are ongoing conversations about gender equality in the workplace and support for working mothers, as well as environmental efforts like reducing single-use plastics. Also, reminders about the importance of faith practices - fasting, prayer, Hajj, shahada and zakat - remain central to many in our community.
May Allah grant ease to commuters and those working on these improvements, and bless efforts to preserve our heritage and serve the public. Wa alaikum assalam.
