Adam's Repentance Prayer: Arabic, Latin, Meaning, and Its Virtues
Every human being has surely made mistakes. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Every child of Adam sins, and the best of those who sin are those who repent" (HR At-Tirmidzi, Ibn Majah, Ahmad, al-Hakim). Therefore, repentance becomes a must for every Muslim.
The repentance prayer of Prophet Adam (AS) is immortalized in Surah Al-A'raf verse 23: Rabbana zalamnaa anfusanaa wa illam taghfir lanaa wa tarhamnaa lanakoonanna minal khaasireen. Meaning: "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers."
The virtues of repenting include: being among the successful (QS An-Nur: 31), being loved by Allah SWT (QS Al-Baqarah: 222), having evil deeds replaced with good ones (QS Al-Furqan: 70), and having sins forgiven (QS Asy-Syura: 25).
