6 Prayers for Newlyweds: A Prayer Guide for Married Couples in Islam
Marriage in Islam is a noble act of worship. Praying for newlyweds is a way to show gratitude and hope for blessings in their household. There's a special prayer from the sunnah taught by Prophet Muhammad SAW: 'Baarakallaahu laka, wa baaraka 'alaika, wa jama'a bainakumaa fii khairin' (May Allah bless you and always bless you, and gather you both in goodness). Hadith narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidzi, An-Nasa’i, Ibnu Majah, and Ibnu Hibban.
Apart from that prayer, there are several other recommended prayers, including: the prayer when the husband holds the wife's forehead, a prayer for a household full of blessings, a prayer to avoid trials (based on Surah Yunus verses 85-86), a prayer to avoid a bad household, and a prayer for a lasting and peaceful marriage ('Allahumma allif baina qulubina wa ashlih zata bainina'). All these prayers contain requests for goodness, protection from evil, and household harmony.
This article is put together as a guide for Muslims who want to pray for newlywed couples, hoping that the marriage becomes an act of worship pleasing to Allah SWT.
