2 Types of the Day of Judgment and Their Signs
The Day of Judgment is divided into two types: the lesser judgment (sugra) and the greater judgment (kubra). The lesser judgment is the death of an individual, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you dies, his judgment has indeed arrived' (narrated by Dailami). The greater judgment is the total destruction of the universe and the resurrection of all humans for reckoning.
Signs of the lesser judgment that have already occurred include the sending of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), his passing, the conquest of Baitul Maqdis, the spread of ignorance, time feeling faster, abundant wealth, widespread adultery and alcohol consumption, the loss of trustworthiness, and competing to build tall buildings.
Signs of the greater judgment include the appearance of smoke (dukhan), the emergence of the Dajjal, the descent of Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him), the appearance of Imam Mahdi, the release of Ya'juj and Ma'juj, the sun rising from the west, the emergence of the beast (dabbah), three eclipses, a fire from Yemen, and a wind that takes the souls of the believers.
