A Plea for Our Ummah's Unity

My heart has been heavy lately, thinking about the recent events in Iran and the loss of their leader. Regardless of your personal views on his leadership, he was a symbol representing Islam to the world. These conflicts are spreading a distorted image of what our faith truly stands for. We know Islam teaches that there is no coercion in religion-you can't force anyone to accept it. Our deen honors, respects, and protects women, granting them their rightful dues. Yet, many outside our community, and even some within Iran who aren't practicing, jumped to attack Islam as a whole simply because they disagreed with the country's leadership. While I don't support religious extremism in any land-it’s not how we should present Islam to others and it breeds division-that doesn’t justify falsely accusing Islam's teachings. Remember, during the time of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, there were many non-Muslims living in Arabia who interacted with him. He never forced his beliefs on them. Why don't today's leaders in Muslim-majority nations follow his example? What would he think of our ummah now? Would it bring him to tears seeing how we've strayed? We might have theological differences among our Muslim brothers and sisters, but why aren't we uniting when one of us faces threats from Islam's enemies? I've seen some Iranians cheering for actions by Israel and the U.S., thinking it serves their interests. But have they forgotten how these powers have treated the Palestinians? Are they choosing to side with those who oppose us over their own faith family? Is this what our ummah has become? So I'm asking everyone: please set aside our differences and stand together, especially now. If not for me, do it for the sake of our ummah and the future of Islam. The Prophet ﷺ foretold that the ummah would split into 73 groups, with only one entering Jannah. That worries me deeply-how much more must our brothers and sisters endure? When will it end if we don't unite against those trying to oppress us and erase our deen? Let's come together and support each other.
