Assalamu Alaikum - it’s a simple explanation about the types of discharge we women might deal with. I’m sharing this so we can all know what to do during our daily worship. By Asma bint Shameem 1) If the discharge happens alongside sexual climax - like during lawful intimacy with your husband, from touching that gets you to orgasm, or from a wet dream - this is maniy (ejaculatory fluid). You gotta do ghusl (a full ritual bath) before you can pray or do other stuff that needs ritual purity. 2) If the discharge comes with sexual arousal or foreplay but you don’t actually reach climax, it’s madhī (pre-ejaculatory fluid). Madhī means you should wash the private area and renew your wudhu before praying. 3) If the discharge shows up without any sexual arousal or desire - just that common light everyday moisture or wetness - most scholars think it’s tahir (pure). It doesn’t break your wudhu and you don’t have to wash it off before praying. A lot of scholars compare it to saliva or sweat and consider it pure. Scholars explaining this include Shaykh Ahmad al-Khaleel, Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaasim, Shaykh Ahmad Ibn Yahyaa an-Najmee, and Shaykh Muhammad Ibn ‘Uthaymeen. They say that regular vaginal wetness is best understood as pure and doesn't need ghusl, wudhu, or washing clothes in most cases. The rulings above reflect what these scholars consider most correct, but there are some differing opinions on the third type. If you’re unsure about something specific, it’s a good idea to talk to a knowledgeable local scholar or a trusted imam for some guidance given your situation. And Allah knows best.
