WA Gibran’s High School Certificate Annulled, Mahfud Leaves VP Position to Political Decision
The Supreme Court (MA) has officially declared the foreign high school equivalency certificate belonging to Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka as invalid and null and void. The cassation ruling with registration number 742 K/TUN/2026, filed by petitioner HM Subhan, was fully granted by the MA panel of judges. The MA also ordered that the equivalency certificate held by the respondent be withdrawn and destroyed.
Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has left the continuation of the vice president's position to a political decision in the DPR, as the dismissal of an inaugurated vice president cannot be automatically carried out based on a Supreme Court ruling. He emphasized the need for a criminal process against officials at the KPU and Ministry of Education who issued and passed the document deemed legally flawed, as it is suspected of containing data forgery or abuse of authority.
Mahfud urged that the KPU and the Directorate General of Primary and Secondary Education be immediately investigated regarding the issuance of the certificate and the alleged smuggling of Article 18 paragraph (3).
