As-salamu alaykum - want to share something really upsetting that went down at a recent match in Munich. So, 1860 Munich has apologized after one of their fans racially abused Energie Cottbus forward Justin Butler during the league game on Saturday. The club mentioned they’re gonna push for a full investigation and will hold the person responsible using every measure they can think of. The match almost got stopped 'cause someone among the 1860 fans started making monkey sounds. Players from both teams, stewards, and other spectators helped point out the person, who was then handed over to the police. The stadium announcer talked about the incident and a bunch of 1860 fans chanted against racism while the game was paused. After about a 10-minute break, the match went on. Referee Konrad Oldhafer said Butler told him he was targeted by someone making those monkey noises. “I didn’t hear them myself,” Oldhafer mentioned to MagentaSport, “but I made it clear to the player that we were taking it very seriously.” He talked with both captains and with Butler, who is Black, and after being told the alleged offender was taken away, asked Butler if he wanted to keep playing. Butler decided to go on. Butler’s teammate Axel Borgmann called it just terrible and said it’s sad this stuff keeps happening. He was glad the fan got identified and kicked out of the stadium. May Allah protect people from such hatred and guide communities to stand against racism.
