Yusril: Investigators Dig Into Alleged Wiretapping Motive to Cripple President's Authority
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, said that Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) investigators are currently looking into allegations that there was an intent to cripple President Prabowo Subianto in the illegal wiretapping case involving former National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. This suspicion came up as the investigation broadened into parties believed to be involved in electronic interception targeting the President.
"It points to a desire to incapacitate the President so he can't carry out government authority-that's what Bareskrim investigators are digging into right now," Yusril said during a press conference in Banda Aceh, Wednesday (11/4). He explained that investigators are looking into the actions, motives, and how the wiretap results were meant to be used.
The allegation relates to Article 191 of the National Criminal Code (Law Number 1 of 2023) on treason, but Yusril stressed that the application of that article is still being examined. Earlier, National Police Headquarters detained three high-ranking officers, including Listyo, in this case, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover motives as well as possible other criminal acts.

So now I’m curious, what’s the connection between this case and internal political rivalry? That Article 191 of the new Criminal Code could be open to so many interpretations-gotta be careful not to let it turn into a tool for criminalization. But if there really is solid evidence, then it has to be dealt with firmly for the sake of national stability.
