Yusril Insists He Was Just a Source, Not the Author of the 'Islam ala Prabowo' Book
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, denies that he wrote the book "Islam ala Prabowo: How Prabowo Subianto Practices Islamic Teachings." He explained his involvement was only as a source interviewed by the drafting team, without knowing the title, the brainstorming process, or the funding for its publication. "I didn't write that book. I was just interviewed by the drafting team," Yusril stressed.
Yusril admitted the interview took place before he was sworn in as minister, and he can't remember who the interviewer was. The inclusion of his name in the copyright section was never discussed beforehand, but he said he doesn't really mind it. He assured that the substance derived from his interview can be academically accounted for.
Responding to the public debate, Yusril thinks the controversy was mostly sparked by the book's title, which is open to multiple interpretations. He said if the title were "Prabowo and Islam," it would be easier to grasp. Yusril also pointed out how people tend to judge a book just by its cover without reading the whole content. The book was launched during the 2025 Baznas National Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on August 26, 2025, initiated by the MPR Speaker and the MUI Chairman.
