Witness Statement Changed in Court, Yaqut Qoumas' Lawyer Slams Unfairness
Lawyer for former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Mellisa Anggraini, highlighted major gaps between the investigation report (BAP) and what witnesses actually said in the hajj quota corruption trial. She stressed that courtroom testimony should be the main reference point.
One key issue was the statement from former Ministry of Religious Affairs contract worker, Ridwan Kurniawan, who denied any money flow of USD 271,500 to Yaqut. Even though his denial was recorded in a follow-up BAP, KPK prosecutors still relied on the first BAP when filing charges.
Mellisa reckons the claim that Yaqut received money now sits on shaky ground. She also questioned how the legal process was handled, calling it unfair and hinting at possible selective targeting of other folks allegedly involved.
