Witness Reveals 50:50 Split for Extra Hajj Quotas Was Gus Yaqut's Policy
Slamet, a Senior Planning Specialist at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, testified at the Jakarta Corruption Court that the 2024 additional hajj quota split of 50 percent regular and 50 percent special was a policy of the then Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. This policy is considered to go against the sense of fairness, Law 8/2019, and the results of a working meeting between Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives and the Ministry on November 27, 2023, which had set a 92:8 composition. During the trial, Slamet confirmed to the prosecutor that the 50:50 split was indeed the minister's policy. This case is related to alleged corruption in the 2023-2024 additional hajj quotas, with state losses of around Rp622.09 billion.
