Who's General Suryo Linked to the Discovery of 995 Firearms at a South Jakarta Islamic School?
The name General Suryo has come up in the case of the discovery of 995 firearms at a school in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. This name was revealed by Alhadid Endar Putra, a lawyer and also the CEO of PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, who claims the weapons belong to his company and are legal under Police Permit No. SI/5483-XII/2008. Alhadid said these guns were stock for a planned shooting and archery extracurricular program, which was supposed to be announced in 2021, together with General Suryo as the Foundation's Patron.
But the plan fell through because General Suryo passed away in 2022. General Suryo was a retired high-ranking TNI officer, former CEO of several companies, and a MURI record holder as a living witness to independence. The foundation denied there was ever a shooting extracurricular, and the new management claims they have no idea where the guns came from, stored in a room previously controlled by the old management.
The discovery started on July 10, 2026, when school staff opened a room to get student supplies and found hundreds of weapons along with ammunition. Besides guns, other illegal items were also found. The South Jakarta Metro Police have launched an investigation and secured the evidence. The school stressed that the clearance was done outside school hours, so it didn't disrupt student activities.
