Welcoming the New Head of BGN, Jember Regency Government Optimistic Free Nutritious Meal Program Will Run Professionally
The Jember Regency Government says it’s ready to fully support the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program rolled out by President Prabowo Subianto. Jember Regent Muhammad Fawait expressed optimism about the leadership of the newly appointed Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Nanik Sudaryati Deyang. "Her track record and integrity have been clearly proven, especially in making sure the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) kitchens operate according to the strict standards set by BGN," said Gus Fawait.
Besides meeting the nutritional needs of schoolchildren and pregnant/breastfeeding mothers, the MBG program is seen as boosting the rural economy. In Jember, this program stabilizes food commodity prices. For example, the price of oranges at the farmer level, which had plunged to Rp3,000–Rp4,000 per kilogram, is now up and stable at Rp10,000–Rp15,000 per kilogram. This increase raises farmers' incomes and improves the welfare of farm workers and MSME players.
The regent also highlighted the MBG program as a form of justice and equitable development. He says the flow of state budget funds that previously centered in Jakarta will spread to the regions. If Jember has 400 SPPG kitchens, it’s estimated that up to Rp4.6 trillion will circulate locally, benefiting the regional economy, farmers, and micro-business operators.
Although there’s still room for improvement, the Jember Regency Government is committed to overseeing and supporting the program so it hits the right targets, especially for children who are malnourished or often go to school without breakfast, so they can learn optimally.
