We need more sincere people to counter false narratives - Assalamu Alaikum
Assalamu Alaikum everyone, Not a sister, sharing this important note to reach more people. We live in a time where our lives are treated as if they don’t matter, and false stories gain traction simply because they’re repeated more than the truth. Why does this happen? We as a community generally don’t spend time inventing lies or running smear campaigns to seize someone’s home or reputation. Meanwhile, others put billions into paid posts, bots, and mass campaigns. Sometimes they pick a random incident and present it as if it’s a common behavior among Muslims, while ignoring the harms they themselves cause. Sometimes they push agendas or fabricate things out of thin air - blaming Muslims for terrorism, forced conversions, or trapping non-Muslim women, while those same acts may be carried out by others and blamed on us. And there are those from within who promote ideas that pull people away from our deen toward Western values, either because they’ve been influenced or fooled. These are a few reasons we need more sincere people to raise awareness. It’s not just about posting the right statements, but about collecting evidence and making clear distinctions. For example, gather trustworthy numbers of crimes committed against our communities and use that data to show how some narratives are clearly propaganda when compared with reality. Defending the truth is Fard upon us, so even if you can spare five minutes a day, do it. Don’t do it out of a need for sympathy - we’re Muslims and don’t need others’ pity - do it to protect the truth, not to attack or belittle people. Remember, good and bad are not the same, and we must not ignore others’ suffering. Here are some practical steps: - If you have little time, open an account on Twitter; if you have more time, consider Instagram reels or posts which take more effort. - Focus on a specific place or type of issue so your message stays clear. You can also run an update or commentary account about a country or public figure that highlights truthful coverage. - Keep going consistently; if your reach grows you might even earn some income like the other accounts do online. - Follow the rules of the platform you use and the laws of your country. - Don’t aim to convince your critics or seek their approval. Share facts calmly and honestly so the truth stands on its own. May Allah grant us wisdom and sincerity in defending the truth and protecting our ummah. Ameen.
