Viral Pig Feast Film Screening Event in Ternate Blocked by Local Military Command
The Ternate 150 Military District Command (Kodim 150/Ternate), through its Commander Colonel Infantry Jan Pieter Setiadi, confirmed they canceled the viral 'Pig Feast' group film screening event that had spread on social media. They stated this step is an effort to maintain security and public comfort in Ternate.
Colonel Jan Pieter explained they had taken a persuasive and humanistic approach with the event organizers. He emphasized the activity had the potential to incite unrest and SARA issues in this spice city. The Kodim urged the event not to proceed to prevent potential conflict.
Based on coordination with Ternate Police, the event, which involved the Ternate Alliance of Independent Journalists and student organizations, was found not to have official permits. The material and theme of the event were also considered sensitive to the community. The film title 'Pig Feast' and its banners were deemed potentially misleading and likely to cause negative reactions.
The Indonesian military reaffirmed they do not prohibit discussions as long as proper procedures are followed and no conflict is provoked. They remain respectful of freedom of expression, but public safety is the top priority. Authorities continue to coordinate with the organizers to ensure the situation remains safe and under control.
