Villages and Sub-Districts in Banyuwangi Become the Frontline in TB Handling
Villages and sub-districts in Banyuwangi have declared their readiness to handle tuberculosis (TB) through a declaration read out by the Head of the Banyuwangi Village Heads Association, Budiharto, in front of Vice Minister of Health Benjamin Paulus Octavianus. They're committed to carrying out integrated TB control, including early detection, standard treatment, contact investigation, and compliance monitoring.
Vice Minister Benjamin emphasized that eradicating TB is a priority government program, considering Indonesia ranks second in the world for number of cases. He's pushing a shift from treatment to prevention, by adding preventive medicine, early detection tools, and X-ray devices at community health centers. In Banyuwangi, four new X-ray machines have been distributed to support diagnosis.
Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani highlighted the importance of ongoing screening to find undetected cases and intervention for patients' families. She appreciated the Health Ministry's support, hoping it'll motivate field teams in handling TB.
