Video of Cabinet Secretary Teddy is a Lesson: Don't Understand Events Just from Snippets
People are reminded not to jump to conclusions about an event just from short video clips floating around on social media. Political communication analyst Hendri Satrio (Hensa) said that the ease of getting information needs to come with some caution, because what you receive might not show the whole story. "In this age of communication tech, you really gotta be careful digesting a story. A story should be seen fully and clearly," Hensa said on Friday (18/9/2026).
He explained that folks nowadays often come across events through short videos that don't always include the full context. Longer content tends to rarely get featured, so creators prefer bite-sized clips that easily grab attention. As a result, people can end up with half-baked stories and understand things differently if they don't look for the full context.
A recent example is the viral video of Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya during the launch of the Jakarta LRT on the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route. In the circulated clip, Teddy appeared to ask several people to move spots. But according to Cabinet Secretary Teddy's clarification, the repositioning was actually to make room for people with disabilities so they could get closer and chat with President Prabowo Subianto and Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung. Hensa stressed that this phenomenon isn't just about Teddy's case, and he urged people to get into the habit of looking for complete info before drawing conclusions.
